Evaluation of the Superficial Venous System

The superficial venous system consists of veins located just under the skin and is the most common area affected by varicose veins.

Procedure Duration :

10 - 20 min

Using Color Doppler Ultrasound, these veins are examined in detail for dilation, reflux, valve insufficiency, and vein diameter. Evaluation is typically performed in patients who have visible veins, itching, burning, a feeling of heaviness, or cosmetic concerns. The procedure is painless and usually takes 10–20 minutes. The results are crucial for accurate varicose vein treatment planning.

Common Symptoms of Superficial Venous System Problems

  • Visibly prominent varicose veins in the legs
  • Increased pain and heaviness by the end of the day
  • Swelling (edema)
  • Burning, itching, or a sensation of fullness
  • Nighttime leg cramps
  • Skin color changes or hardening

A superficial vein evaluation helps determine the exact cause of these symptoms and guides proper treatment.

For accurate assessment of your superficial veins and to plan the most effective varicose vein treatment, a Doppler ultrasound can be performed. For detailed information and appointment scheduling, please contact our clinic.

Evaluation of the superficial venous system is performed using Color Doppler Ultrasound to examine the veins close to the skin for their diameter, course, and valve function. Veins that are leaking, dilated, or functionally insufficient are clearly identified. Based on these findings, the most appropriate treatment method—sclerotherapy, laser, radiofrequency, or surgical intervention—is planned for the patient.

  • Clearly identifies the source and extent of varicose veins
  • Ensures treatment is applied to the correct vein and region
  • Increases treatment success and long-term effectiveness
  • Prevents unnecessary or incomplete treatments
  • Non-invasive and safe diagnostic procedure

This evaluation is diagnostic and does not require rest. Patients can return to daily activities immediately. Based on the results, a personalized treatment plan is created, and if needed, follow-up Doppler examinations can be performed.

  • Individuals with varicose vein complaints
  • Patients experiencing leg pain, swelling, or circulation problems
  • Patients planning varicose vein treatment
  • Individuals who have had prior varicose vein treatment but still have symptoms

This evaluation can be safely performed both before and after treatment.
