Micro-Surgical Varicose Vein Removal (Microphlebectomy)

Microphlebectomy is a minimally invasive and effective surgical method used in the treatment of superficial and prominent varicose veins.

Procedure Duration :

30 - 60 min

What Is Microphlebectomy?

Microphlebectomy is a varicose vein treatment method based on the removal of varicose veins through very small skin incisions (1–2 mm) using specialized surgical instruments. The procedure typically does not require stitches and provides cosmetically successful results.

How Is Microphlebectomy Performed?

Before treatment, the venous structure is evaluated with Color Doppler Ultrasonography. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. Varicose veins are removed through small entry points made on the skin. The duration of the procedure generally ranges between 30–60 minutes, depending on the extent of the varicose veins.

After the procedure, short-term use of bandaging and/or compression stockings is recommended. Patients can usually walk on the same day and return to normal activities within a few days. Follow-up examinations are performed using Doppler ultrasound.

  • Superficial and prominent varicose veins
  • Patients in whom main truncal vein insufficiency has been excluded by Doppler ultrasound
  • Residual varicose veins after EVLA, RFA, or glue (cyanoacrylate) treatment
  • Vein enlargements causing cosmetic concerns
  • Pain and a feeling of fullness related to varicose veins
  • A minimally invasive technique
  • Generally does not require stitches
  • Scars are usually barely noticeable
  • Same-day discharge is possible
  • Allows a rapid return to daily life
  • Provides both cosmetic and functional improvement

Microphlebectomy may not be suitable for every patient with varicose veins. Eligibility for treatment is determined after a detailed physician examination and Doppler ultrasound evaluation.
