Varicose Vein Closure with Medical Adhesive (Glue)

Varicose vein closure with medical adhesive (glue) is a modern treatment method used for varicose veins caused by venous insufficiency. It is performed without surgical incisions or the use of thermal energy.

Procedure Duration :

20 - 30 min

What Is the Glue Method?

Glue treatment for varicose veins is based on injecting a special medical adhesive into the insufficient vein under ultrasound guidance. The adhesive seals the vein walls together, closing the vein and removing it from circulation. Over time, the treated vein is absorbed by the body, and blood flow is redirected to healthy veins.

How Is Varicose Vein Closure with Glue Performed?

Before treatment, the venous structure and reflux points are evaluated using Color Doppler Ultrasonography. The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance with the help of a thin catheter. A controlled amount of medical adhesive is delivered into the vein, closing the problematic vessel. The procedure typically takes 20–30 minutes.

Patients can return to their daily activities shortly after the procedure. Pain and bruising are generally minimal. Follow-up examinations are performed with Doppler ultrasound.

  • Great saphenous vein (GSV) insufficiency
  • Small saphenous vein (SSV) insufficiency
  • Patients who are not suitable for heat-based treatments (EVLA, RFA)
  • Leg pain, heaviness, and swelling caused by varicose veins
  • Signs of chronic venous insufficiency
  • No thermal energy is used
  • Does not require tumescent anesthesia
  • No incisions or stitches
  • In most cases, compression stockings are not required after the procedure
  • Enables a rapid return to daily life
  • Provides cosmetically successful results

Glue treatment for varicose vein closure may not be suitable for every patient. Eligibility for treatment is determined after a physician’s examination and Doppler ultrasound evaluation.
